Ahhh screw it. GameCube sucks. I fail but don't care, at least Mario Sunshine is out of the way so when I get around to selling games I can include that.

Somehow slept for 13 hours yesterday. Had an unbelievable nightmare which in hindsight was cool because of the way it kept me from knowing if I was asleep or awake.

First TAJ session went badly. Didn't accomplish the things I wanted to and it overran without even finishing. Blah.

I need chocolate.

Finished Mario Sunshine. Haven't finished Eternal Darkness though, all desire to play it vanished when I got to the final boss. Started a new Robotech file but it's a tough game.

That's all.

The Great GameCube Push [21 Jan 2006|02:03pm]
[ mood | determined ]

..off a cliff!

Not really, but maybe in the future.

I've had this stupid system for four years now, amassed a huge grand total of 13 - count 'em - 13 games, and rarely ever play them, let alone finish them. So while I have nothing planned for the forseeable future and am extremely bored, I'm going to try and finish as many as I can. I'll aim to have 75% of them completed (which, minus AC since it has no end, is 8 games). Until this is done I'm not playing on any of my other systems.

c - completed
p - in progress
n - not attempting

Medal of Honor: Frontline (c)
Blood Omen 2 (c)
The Italian Job (c)
Rayman 3 (c)
Eternal Darkness (p)
Rogue Leader (p)
Super Mario Sunshine (p)
Burnout (p)
Resident Evil (p)
Robotech: Battlecry (p)
Animal Crossing (n)
Resident Evil 0 (n)
Turok Evolution (n)

This Week's Progress: MOH:F and TIJ, aiming for a third.
Currently playing: Eternal Darkness

The times they are a changing... [18 Jan 2006|11:55am]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

20 years ago I remember being lucky to get a small lump of plastic in the rough shape of the cereal's character/mascot, or a cardboard cut-out from back of the box. So what do I find in my cereal this morning but a DVD - two episodes of Scooby Doo (no Scrappy in sight, yay) and two mini-games (one with Scooby, one with Coco the Monkey). It's odd.

Note to self: [17 Jan 2006|10:40pm]
[ mood | sleepy ]

Finished Medal of Honor: Frontline tonight. It's now my favourite GC game. Love the music, the missions, the game mechanics (especially good when sniping), and how much easier it is to just pick up and play compared to all the other GC games I have.
Makes me realise how horrible Mario Sunshine really is, that game is just not fun at all. The rest of my games fall inbetween.

I think my next gaming buy will be MoH: European Assault or MGS: Twin Snakes. But neither will be for a while.

Nothing planned for the week except getting 24, Lost and wrestling. Might go to Inverness if I can persuade my sister to exchange my HMV voucher for her Borders one, I'm itching to buy Essential Dr Strange vol. 2. Assuming they still have it in.

Tired. Goodnight.

How will it go in 2006 [31 Dec 2005|05:17am]
[ mood | apathetic ]

You know how there was a "pattern" for Star Trek movies, where the odd numbered ones were bad and the even numbered ones were good (up until Nemesis, which was really poor)? My years are kinda like that. 2002 was horrible, 2003 was very good, 2004 was horrible, 2005 was good. 2006..?

It snowed yesterday, not for long but long enough for about an inch to lie. Wandered around town for about an hour before everyone woke up and enjoyed the pop the snow made when my feet would compress it. Wonder how many people did wake up from that noise.

I didn't play Shenmue 2 this Christmas. I just can't be bothered with Kowloon for a second longer, it's so god damn boring. No matter, I'm still on track to finish it before Shenmue 3 comes out. Maybe next year.

I'm only updating this because I'm bored. This sucks. *nukes the LJ*

The Pointless 2005 Raika Awards [20 Dec 2005|05:24pm]
[ mood | curious ]

I haven't updated this in a while so here's an easily conceived entry to break the slump.

Best song of 2005: Tracy Grammer - Hey Ho. Because it's so catchy, I couldn't get it out of my head all Summer.
Runner up: My Latest Novel - Sister Sneaker Sister Soul. Just love this song, and can't wait for their debut album to come out.

Best album of 2005: The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers. The soundtrack to a memorable Spring that I had this year.
Runner up: Architecture in Helsinki - In Case We Die. Weird and wonderful.

Dishonourable mention: The Mars Volta's second album came out this year. It SUCKED. Huge disappointment.

Best movie of 2005: Based on the only two I saw, Revenge of the Sith. That it was any good at all was astounding and surprising. It felt like Star Wars and left me giddy. So yay to ROTS.
Runner up: The other one I saw, Batman Begins. A Batman movie done right!

Best game of 2005: Joke category!
Runner up: Your face!

Best wrestling match of 2005: For Rune_walsh's interest only, I guess. Austin Aries vs C.M. Punk, from RoH's Death Before Dishonor III. Not the best actual wrestling of the year, but very close, and the pure emotion and drama behind it all pushes it far beyond anything else that happened this year. Punk vs Cabana from later in the year was also great for the same reasons, just not AS great.
Runner up: Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio, from Smackdown's Japan show. As horrible as the WWE is most of the time, this match was great, the whole show was really. Kurt's a living legend and Rey was so good that I believed a 5' guy could beat an Olympic Gold winner, they put on an awesome display.

Best comic of 2005: This is a tough one since nothing stands out too much. It's going to have to be a tie between The Ultimates volume 2 and The Losers. The first gets kudos for being a Marvel superhero team book that keeps me entertained, which is very very rare. The second is just very cool and returned to form after being a little up and down with its quality last year, especially with #30's cliffhanger a few weeks ago which left me spinning.

Best TV show of 2005: It's going to have to be Lost. But ONLY because of Jin, Sun and a few other characters. With how season 2 looks to be going though I doubt this will achieve the same acclaim next year. Unless Kate gets mangled horribly by something.
Runner up: Peep Show. Season 3 had the funniest stuff. Wish it wasn't so short.

Most useful (I dare say 'best') person of 2005: Believe it or not, after serious thought and consideration..fudge. For all the DVD ripping he did - Lost season 1 and all important wrestling - and for actually buying PilotWings 64, and lastly for all the monumental sweaty gay sex we have every night in private.
Runner up: Mystery unnamed person for reasons not too disimilar to fudge's. Kidding. For reasons mentioned in an older entry and for keeping me grounded in reality.

..and done.

December! [01 Dec 2005|02:50am]
[ mood | cheerful ]

Already? Fastest passing year ever.

It's so far been a nice week, I've been in a good mood the whole time. I love when the unexpected happens, it's exactly what I needed right now. There was some snow on Monday but it didn't last, never mind I'm sure there will be more to come. Started 24 season 4 a week ago, just finished up the second disc and it has gone from being very underwhelming to be pretty satisfying, all of the earlier flaws have been forgotten so it should just keep getting better for the rest of the season. Lost is on now but it's a damn Kate episode so I'll either not bother with it or just download a very small file, because she just isn't worth the time really. As good a show as it is most of the time, it's incredibly unbalanced considering it's meant to be an ensemble show. Gaming-wise I've just been playing Columns and have gone back to Gunbound. Tried playing some N64 games at the weekend but they weren't enjoyable for long. And for comics I've waiting for Walking Dead #24...for a week now, dammit where is it? This is a boring entry huh.

[15 minute later edit] Lost has lost it. Rune_walsh just described the episode and it's absurd. Won't be getting it.

[19:11:57] [Raika] I also know peter weller is rumoured to be appearing in it, which would be cool
[19:12:09] [fudge] dont know who that is
[19:12:20] [Raika] robocop actor
[19:12:41] [fudge] never seen robocop
[19:12:53] [Raika] what the fuck?

Oh goody [16 Nov 2005|04:16pm]
[ mood | hungry ]

GAME (horrible corporate chain of video game stores that specialises in overpricing, moronic staff and not selling used games other than PS2 ones) is rumoured to be buying out Gamestation (excellent but smaller chain of video game stores that specialises in fair pricing, knowlegeable staff and a huge amount of used game, old and new). It's not fair to Raika. :(

Wonder Project J2 arrived today. Love the box art and the manual, and it even came with a neat little sticker. It fits into my PAL N64 but I'm going to need the Passport 3 Plus (think Freeloader but for the N64) to get it to work though. Until then it will sit neatly on a shelf. :)

And away from games for a moment, has anyone else done this or is it just me? I was taking something out of a drawer last night but dropped it and thought to myself "you idiot Raika". Please tell me I'm not the only person to have referred to himself by an online name in the real world (aside from vid who always does). :(

Continuing with playing games I've ignored for years: been playing Mystical Ninja 2 (aka Goemon's Great Adventure) since Saturday. Enjoying it a lot, I think it just might be my new favourite post 16-bit side-scrolling platformer. And it has the most original Game Over screen in existence. :)

I really need to stop doing this [10 Nov 2005|12:34am]
[ mood | frustrated ]

It won't end well.

Yes..anyway..hello! Updating due to boredom and needing something to do before bed.

Just read Infinite Crisis #2. It was as great as #1 was meh. Even made me decide to dig out Crisis in Infinite Earths tomorrow and read that, gotta go over it all again, this whole mess requires a degree in DC history. But after tonight... it's looking like a good mess.

My sister moves in tomorrow. She better not use up all the milk. I need that.

Been playing Duke Nukem 64 for the past few days. Love the L.A street levels, hate the space/alien levels. I'm going to have to rely on games I bought ages ago but never bothered with before to keep me entertained now, because Gamestation has removed all of their used games to make space for more PS2 games expected to be sold during the Christmas rush. No more cheap 2-for-1 Master System and N64 game deal. :(

New Lost tonight, which I'll probably have by Friday. New Y and Walking Dead out today too, which I'll also probably have by Friday.

Spent Monday night and all of yesterday without the use of my left eye since there was something wrong with it. Seems to be better now, whatever it was that was causing it. Have a new found appreciation for depth perception.

First sign of snow yesterday, on Ben Wyvis' peak. Won't be long until it reaches down here at sea level.

Umm. Hmmmm. I've gone blank.

Hi I'm NightsB! [02 Nov 2005|08:23pm]
[ mood | pleased ]

I spend endless amounts of money I claim not to have on video game that are old and/or obscure/Japanese!

Or more accurately: I used my birthday money to buy a bunch of stuff and now it's all gone. Here's the list...

Master System games
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Cosmic Spacehead
- Golfamania
- Wonder Boy in Monster World
- Taz-Mania
Nintendo 64 games
- Wonder Project J2
- Aria: The Soul Market
- Aria: Uses of Enchantment
- Midnight Nation, 2003 edition

I'm very pleased with my new bundle of goodies.

And with my Christmas money I'm going to by thirteen Virtual Boys and paint them all different colours so that they'll be different enough to justify buying the same thing so many times. ^_^

I feel like doing a cartwheel [17 Oct 2005|09:10am]
[ mood | playful ]

I have some energy. Don't know where it came from, it's 9am and I've been up all night so by all rights I should be tired. Can't do cartwheels though so it'll just be a forward roll or two on the floor after posting this.

Woke up yesterday to find the Shaun of the Dead dvd at the foot of my door, my sister must have dropped it off while I was sleeping the day away. Spent six hours watching it; tons of extras, four commentary tracks, and the movie itself is dead cool, well worth watching (plus it has the cutest zombie ever). Still got two commentaries and some features left to watch, will get around to those tomorrow.

Been watching a lot of ROH recently, old and new. It's almost a shame that it took CM Punk leaving for the crappy, greedy, boring WWE to finally make me a fan of him. So much emotion and drama in his final month. But ROH is a big ol' talent sponge so it'll remain awesome despite all of the unfortunate departures this year. Downloading more wonderful Ring of Honor from Rune_walsh right now. Independent wrestling makes my world go round. :)

[4 minute later edit] My neck hurts.

My sister made me strip today [07 Oct 2005|01:43am]
[ mood | chipper ]

I'm telling you, it was hard work. She's moving back in later this year, so I got drafted to help redecorate her room. Spent hours stripping the wallpaper so we can paint it. This was just an excuse to use that sentence in the subject.

The day started horribly. And thanks to some things I expected and some things I didn't, it ended really well.

Presents to add to my previous post:
A blanket
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (the book)
Marvel - frickin - Spotlight #5 and #6!!!!!!! (really old, really expensive comics, featuring the first EVER appearances of Ghost Rider)

And to this entry I would like to add:

The morning after the day after the day after [28 Sep 2005|02:33am]
[ mood | okay ]

I'm going to record how my birthday went. Without sounding as depressed about it as I could do.

Midday woke up. Opened the one present I had: a 2006 calender. K...
Ate something, got online, got an e-mail which made me feel sad.
Listened to some music, mostly The Good Life, Coheed and Cambria and ambient stuff.
Watched it rain while also watching crappy tv - Stargate and Enterprise.
Phoned my sister in England to wish her a happy birthday since we share one, though she's fourteen years older than me. Her present didn't arrive until yesterday though, some absurdly bad straight-to-dvd movies with cyborg cops and ninjas and revenge and stuff. We're talking budgets stretching into the hundreds of dollars here.
Made dinner (macaroni & cheese).
Got a call from a friend, which was probably the highlight of the day.
Played some Myst 3: Exile and remained as stuck as I had been for the previous two days.
Watched two episodes of Lost, then wasted time online, watched Arrested Development, wasted more time online.
Got a very unexpected e-mail from a brother, which was nice.
Watched some pompous movie starring Alan Rickman then watched more Lost. Lost, I should say, is a decent tv show. Not crappy like Stargate and Enterprise.
Set a Pain of Salvation (please make your own obvious observation) playlist, turned off the lights and went to bed.

Coming Soon... [22 Sep 2005|12:33am]
[ mood | sleepy ]

The season two premiere and return of... Duckworld! With all new higher resolution and larger picture! Just as soon as some clueless but well meaning relative sends me money for my birthday this sunday, then I can buy my friend's 2MP digital camera as she got a MUCH better one for her birthday last month. Good timing huh? Mine breaks and just a month later the chance arises to get a used but affordable one that's better (not great, 2MP isn't awesome or anything, but better than my 0.8MP camera). Plus I have to find some ducks of course. All in the name of providing quality entertainment.

Think I'll start Myst 3: Exile tomorrow.

The flu is gone but the coughing is not. I swallowed some chocolate milk and it went down the wrong way a week ago, ever since then I've had this tickle in my throat that's making me cough every few minutes. Very annoying.
